About the role
The role will play a key part in transforming the way the organisation operates so that it can deliver great services to residents; shifting towards a place-based, outcome-driven model, and deepening partnership working with other organisations across the county. Without this role, it will be much harder to achieve the ambitions within the Community Vision for Surrey.
Your remit covers managing significant strategic programmes of work, providing professional expertise, helping to embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and targeting key challenges to support organisational transformation. Working within a complex environment, the new Chief of Staff will drive effective collaboration to deliver the highest standards of customer service across the organisation and prepare services for future challenges.
In an authority on such a broad-spectrum improvement journey, this role will be accountable for remaining sighted on all strands of the improvement strategy, and keeping senior colleagues abreast of progress or barriers. Individual services are working well and at pace, but in a large and complex organisation, there is significant value in gaining that wider perspective – stepping back from the day to day, to review progress on a larger canvas.
Another key part of the role is communications and advocacy: partners endorse and support our change programme, but understandably seek regular updates and assurance about our forward momentum. We will look to you to manage these dialogues with openess, clarity and credibility.
